Exploring Thailand's Wildlife

Thailand Nature Project is a "citizen science" wildlife website.

Many people visit Thailand for it's warm climate, beautiful beaches, and it's rich culture, but there's much more. The country covers an area of  513,000 sq km, 198,000 sq ml and stretches from Malaysia in the south to Myanmar in the north. The tropical and sub-tropical climate of Thailand supports a wide range of bio-diversity including 15,000 plant species, nearly 300 mammal species, over 950 bird species and a huge number of insects. Some 7,000 insect species have been identified by the Department of Agriculture but this is only accounts for 10% of specimens collected (Prakobviyakit, 1989). That's a staggering 70,000 insect species in Thailand and the figures still growing!

We made this site because we are simply amazed by the bio-diversity in Thailand, in particular the wide range of insects that come in many and often quite bizarre shapes.
Thailand Nature Project was formerly called Farangs Gone Wild
