Now it's always exciting to be contacted by a new wildlife photographer, this was especially true for us at FGW, when it turns out that the photographer in question dons breathing apparatus and plunges beneath the waves. So far we have concentrated on a few families of Coleoptera (Beetles) and Hemiptera (True Bugs), but are working to spread this globally through out the site. To get this going we've just finished making pages for just under 50 of Thailand's Hawk and Sphinx moths, each with information such as distribution and where we can find them common names. Below is a list of all the Sphingidae we currently have on the site, we direct links for each species page.
22/2/2015 Common Tawny RajahThe Common Tawny Rajah, Charaxes bernardus hierax was first described by Felder & Felder in 1867. This one stopped for a quick drink in the garden this morning.
9/2/2015 Stink Bug on a straw9/2/2015 Red Imperial from ThailandOne of Farangs Gone Wild partners, Viv Braznell, recently made a rare spotting of a male Red Imperial butterfly (Suasa lisides) in southern Thailand. This butterfly can also be found in India, Assam and Myanmar.
More pictures of the Lycaenidae family can be found here The Intermediate Maplet (Chersonesia intermedia intermedia) is from the Nymphalidae family of butterflies, also known as brush-footed butterflies. This speciman was spotted by 3 year old Ella.
