This red, black and white insect belongs to the Cerambycidae family of beetles, also known as Longhorn beetles. This specimen goes by the name of Xylotrechus magnicollis, first described by  French entomologist Léon Fairmaire in 1888.

Around 20,000 species of Loghorn beetles have been descibed in the world, just over half  in the eastern hemisfere. Thailand has more than 800 species compared to less than 100 in Great Britain.

The first bird we are showcasing from Thailand is the Dusky Broadbill, Corydon sumatranus. First described by Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles in 1822. Sir Raffles is however more famous for being the founder of Singapore and also London Zoo.

The Dusky Broadbill like other Broadbills live in dence canopies in wet forests, which can make it hard to see them. These are small preditory birds living off insects and small reptiles.
