Acalolepta cervina  (Hope, 1831)

Home > Insects > Coleoptera > Cerambycidae > Acalolepta cervina
Kingdom: Animalia
Class: Insecta
Order: Coleoptera
Superfamily: Chrysomeloidea
Family: Cerambycidae
Subfamily: Lamiinae
Tribe: Lamiini

Genus: Acalolepta
Species: cervina

  • Common names: Teak canker grub
  • Distribution: India, Myanmar, Thailand
  • Image locations: Chiang Mai (Doi Suthep-Pui N.P.)
  • Hosts: Tectona grandis (Teak)
  • Additional notes: Adults feed on the bark of teak saplings 2-8 years old and lay eggs on the stem beneath the bark, near ground level. Feeding and tunneling by larvae causes formation of a bulging canker all around the stem at which point the saplings may break.
